Mirfa Desalination Station B, Abu DhabiMirfa Desalination Station B, Abu DhabiMott MacDonald was appointed as owner's engineer for Abu Dhabi’s first fast track project developed on the traditional EPC mode. Mirfa Power Station is a major power and desalination station in Abu Dhabi Emirate, situated on the coast some 160km west of Abu Dhabi city. The project comprised the design, material supply and installation of three new 7.5Mgal/d multi stage flash (MSF) desalination units together with ancillaries which included:

  • Seawater intake system
  • Sodium hypo-chlorite dosing system
  • Potabilisation plant
  • Town water storage tanks
  • Auxiliary boilers including gas reducing station and crude oil tanks
Mott MacDonald’s role involved producing the conceptual design, performance models and specification along with supervising all engineering activities and project management. The firm’s brief included reviewing and auditing the Contractor’s design as well as carrying out works inspections, supervising site installation and commissioning during construction for three 7.5Mgal/d, multi-stage flash (MSF) desalination units together with all ancillaries. Mott MacDonald also supported ADWEA during the prequalification, bidding, project negotiation and award phases.
