Expert witness
Expert witness is a person who is a specialist in a subject, often technical, who may present his/her expert opinion. Our staff are often called upon as expert witnesses.

Farm reservoirs
To increase the reliability of water available for irrigation use there has been a significant increase of on-farm storage in recent years. This is particularly common in the agricultural areas of East Anglia. The storage has normally been off-stream with bunded reservoirs formed from cut and fill on the site. Where feasible, clayey and silty materials from the site have been used to line the reservoir, otherwise geotextile liners can be used. Mott MacDonald is able to provide the full range of consultancy services required for the investigation, design, supervision of construction and provision of the necessary Reservoirs Act statutory certificates and reports.

Feasibility studies
Mott MacDonald has worldwide experience in undertaking feasibility studies for water and wastewater projects ranging from schemes serving large cities to small rural areas. The feasibility study identifies alternative solutions and investigates each in terms of environmental impact, technology, ability to meet the demand and cost. Stakeholders are frequently consulted. Each alternative solution is costed including environmental costs and a cost benefit analysis is carried out through economic and financial analysis. Affordability and tariff studies often form part of this process.

Financial and economic modelling
These often form key components of our water projects and can include Cost-Benefit Analysis, full risk analysis; quantifiable economic benefits; shadow conversion factors; options analysis; detailed costing of chosen options, sensitivity analysis; water demand/wastewater flow forecasts and determination of discount rate.

Flood protection
Mott MacDonald has grown a large and diverse flood management division, capable of undertaking studies in relation to all aspects of flood risk management: flood risk mapping, catchment flood management and flood forecasting in the UK, Europe and Asia.

Frameworks
Frameworks enable clients to appoint consultants and contractors to undertake packages of work in a cost-effective way by removing the need for extensive bidding procedures. Mott MacDonald has worked on framework agreements for the major of the UK water plcs as well as for clients internationally.
