Optimisation

Acid injection of a potential water supply borehole in Suffolk to improve yield, UKAcid injection of a potential water supply borehole in Suffolk to improve yield, UKMott MacDonald can help Water Service providers to minimise expenditure through optimisation of existing assets and processes. Optimisation involves identifying the optimum approach to capital or operational expenditure to achieve particular objectives at least cost, while taking account of given constraints. Optimisation techniques can be applied to the operation of existing assets or the planning of new infrastructure and can potentially save water service providers significant sums in the short and long term.

There are many possible applications of optimisation techniques, from water resource planning, to network operation or treatment works design.

Value Management workshop for the Fort William Area Water Supply, ScotlandValue Management workshop for the Fort William Area Water Supply, ScotlandThere is no standard approach to an optimisation study and we pride ourselves in our ability to be flexible and innovative – we start by understanding the problem and the specific drivers and constraints, and we use a range of tools and techniques at our disposal to assess potential options and identify the optimum intervention strategy. We are experienced in the application of Monte Carlo modelling and other probabilistic techniques.

Our people are pushing the boundaries in this area through the development of sophisticated models that incorporate uncertainty on input parameters and employ optimising software.
