Technical Assistance to the Asian Development
Bank: project preparation for the Khatlon Flood Management Project,
Tajikistan
Building on our core water and environment skills and our
appreciation of international development issues, Mott MacDonald
has been supporting international agencies for more than 30 years.
Typical of this work in the water sector are the numerous Project
Preparation Technical Assistances carried out for the Asian
Development Bank (ADB). In Cambodia we supported the ADB in the
capacity building of the Ministry of Water Resources and
Meteorology in which we helped to prepare a draft National Water
Sector Profile and established an effective planning and
implementation capacity.
Mott MacDonald provides a significant amount of support to
international agencies through frameworks. Current frameworks
include: UK Department for International Development (DFID)
Engineering framework; Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)
five-year Indefinite Quantity Indefinite Delivery (IDIQ) framework;
and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
Water Indefinite Quantity Contract. Through these frameworks we are
currently providing support to these agencies in Africa, the Middle
East and South Asia.
Other international agencies we have supported include the World
Bank, the European Union, DFID, MCC and the African Development
Bank. This support has covered a wide variety of issues from
assisting with drafting of a new water law for China to
strengthening the capacity of stakeholders at all levels, from
newly formed regional operating companies to ministries, for
example in Romania’s water sector in the lead up to accession to
the EU.
In addition to providing services through our experienced teams,
our technical staff are frequently invited to participate with
international agencies on missions. Typical of this, a Mott
MacDonald expert supported the supervision progress missions for
the Agricultural Rehabilitation Project in East Timor. The missions
included evaluating progress in rehabilitating community irrigation
schemes and ensuring long-term sustainability through the
establishment of formal or informal Water Users' Associations. In
Yunnan, China, our experts supported the World Bank Private Sector
Participation Identification mission for private sector
participation (PSP) in the water sector (water supply and
wastewater) in two cities in Yunnan Province, China.
Mott MacDonald is recognised worldwide for its contribution to
international development. Recognising this, Mott MacDonald staff
have filled many prestigious posts; Peter Lee is currently
President of the International Commission on Irrigation and
Drainage.
