Water and wastewater infrastructure

wastewater treatmentTreatment Plant, St Petersburg, RussiaThroughout the world people need safe and affordable drinking water, together with an environmentally sustainable means of disposing of wastewater. At Mott MacDonald we have the skills and resources to plan, design and implement the basic infrastructure required to meet this need. This covers all aspects of the water and wastewater cycle, with a proven track record across the world.

In delivering this infrastructure Mott MacDonald provides leadership and develops appropriate solutions, which are tailored to meet our clients' specific needs. This is achieved in a spirit of cooperation through detailed technical knowledge and a high level understanding of the strategic framework in which our clients operate.

Water Infrastructure
Assessing the suitability of a water source for safe abstraction is an environmentally and politically 6 of 12 6.5 cume pumps at Da Qiao pumping station, Shanghai Environment Project, ChinaDa Qiao pumping station, Shanghai, Chinasensitive issue for this increasingly scarce resource. Mott MacDonald is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for groundwater development and water resource management. Our experienced staff include hydrogeologists, geophysicists, groundwater engineers and environmentalists and are able to solve water abstraction problems throughout the world.

Providing safe and affordable water treatment is a fundamental requirement for our clients. Our experienced process engineers are able to assess any potential water source and determine an appropriate water treatment process. This is based on both theoretical and practical knowledge, and a detailed understanding of the legislative background and institutional requirements. Our experienced engineers and planners have a proven track record in delivering detailed design and construction supervision in line with our clients' quality and budgetary expectations.

At Mott MacDonald we have designed over 10,000km of water transmission pipelines in the last ten years. This requires a detailed knowledge of pipe materials, ground conditions and operating scenarios. This is supported by comprehensive network modelling tools, which can be used for master planning and strategic studies, and for detailed design and operational management.

Wastewater Infrastructure

Biosolids Treatment Plant under construction at King's Lynn, UKKing's Lynn Biosolids Treatment Works, UKThe socio-economic, political and environmental implications of flooding problems and pollution incidents are becoming increasingly onerous. At Mott MacDonald we are focused on providing intelligent solutions, which help our clients optimise their assets, whilst maintaining a high level of service to their customers and shareholders.

Our extensive resources and track record enable us to address the full range of problems faced by our clients. For sewerage systems this may involve master planning for the development of new systems or hydraulic modelling of existing systems to resolve flooding problems, improve the environmental impact of sewer overflows or to accommodate new development.

For wastewater and sludge treatment our aim is to provide solutions which are appropriate to our clients' needs. This ranges from traditional process solutions to more advanced and innovative solutions. Underpinning this approach is an emphasis on understanding the site specific mechanisms which affect process performance, before determining the most appropriate solution.
