Sewerage

Completed sewer, Brno Sewerage Project, Czech RepublicCompleted sewer, Brno Sewerage Project, Czech RepublicWe have extensive experience in the planning, design and construction super- vision of sewerage and wastewater schemes throughout the world. These range in size from single property solu- tions in urban areas through projects for isolated communities up to the very largest-scale projects for major cities.

Our experience covers the whole range of consultancy services including:

  • Initial master planning and feasibility studies (including population and demand forecasts)
  • Preparation of preliminary and detailed designs and contract documents
  • Supervision of construction and contract administration
  • Levels of service surveys and rehabilitation studies
  • Advisory services in economic, financial, tariff, organisational and management aspects
We look to add value by drawing on the wide-ranging expertise of the whole Mott MacDonald Group, including for example:

  • Project management
  • Telecommunications
  • Visualisation and CFD modelling
Over recent years, we have been extensively involved in water and wastewater network modelling for a number of United Kingdom water companies, including Anglian Water, Scottish Water, Southern Water, Yorkshire Water and Northumbrian Water.

This has implied extensive use of software packages, including InfoWorks, Infonet, Microdrainage, CCTV survey of sewers on the Jinja/Njeru Water Supply and Sanitation project, UgandaCCTV survey of sewers - Jinja/Njeru, UgandaGIS mapping programmes such as MapInfo as well as manhole/CCTV database packages.

Models have ranged in size from populations <100 to 2 million. The models have been used for various purposes, from detailed design, solving specific flooding and intermittent discharge problems to predicting future needs in 25 year master plans. We have delivered multiple studies for Scottish Water and for Yorkshire Water, the latter involving water quality modelling for seven catchments. Other modelling centres include Newcastle, Durham and Skipton.

We have extensive experience of data collection, contract preparation and asset surveys, and have developed good working relationships with clients and survey contractors to help ensure that appropriate survey is delivered on time at an appropriate price.

Mott MacDonald has contributed to the delivery of significant numbers of projects in the UK during the AMP2 to the current AMP4 investment periods.

We are able to deliver products from scoping studies through to detailed design working under a range of “partnership or framework” arrangements. This is demonstrated by our Skipton office where we work extremely closely with our joint venture partner, the contractor Bentley, in constructing solutions to flooding problems for Yorkshire Water in a co-located office. An alternative delivery mechanism for our on-going work with Northumbrian Water sees us closely aligned with contractors to deliver a Wastewater Network programme of works primarily concerned with flooding problems and Combined Sewer Overflows.

We have been asked to undertake a broad range of assignments for improvements to the main sewerage systems of major cities across the world.
